The Hana Highway

Along the north side of Maui is a 2-lane (1 lane when crossing a bridge - and there are lots of bridges!) that goes through an almost jungle-like area. This side of the island gets lots of rain because the mountains hold it back from reaching the south side. This creates a beautiful, almost Eden-like atmosphere with many waterfalls. Unfortunately for us most of the falls were dry, :( But the scenery is gorgeous, especially when you get an area overlooking the coast.

On the Way to The Hana Highway

On the way to the Hana Highway there is a lookout over the ocean where we saw tons of whales. Caught a few spraying with their blowholes and exposing their flukes. Haven't seen one breach yet but we'll be here for quite a while!

The Sheraton Resort

Temporary home. I still can't believe it's the middle of winter and here we are in 80 degree temperature, sitting by the pool, enjoying the warm breezes and the tropical drinks. And, of course, watching the whales!
There are several pools that are interconnected. So refreshing to just walk along in the cool water (like Julie is doing in the one photo).
